A February full of celebrations at Mellish House
February, like all the other months at Mellish House, has been filled to the brim with celebrations and activities. The home welcomed the Year of the Tiger, with a Chinese food buffet trolley. All the residents read their fortunes from Chinese fortune cookies and sampled some Chinese beer – not many were a fan of the beer.
National Nutella Day went down a treat in the home and residents practiced their hand-eye co-ordination to make their own Nutella pastry roll ups, which were then tasted with a cup of tea – there were no leftovers on this day!
Some residents had fun getting a little messy with the wellbeing team making plaster of Paris flower moulds. Residents helped to mix the plaster and poor it into the moulds then patiently waited for it to set and enjoyed seeing the end result. Once we have more made, we will be painting them too.
Valentine’s was celebrated for a whole week at Mellish House, you can’t have too much love. The Valentine’s trolley went to every resident, with a card, some heart shaped chocolate and an artificial rose.
Residents seemed really touched and surprised by these gestures and were really engaged with reading their cards, sniffing their roses and of course the chocolates went very quick! One resident was so happy with his gifts he told us straight away they were from his wife and believed we'd delivered them from his wife and was proudly showing us what she'd sent.
We decorated the rooms for the parties, got some little props and enjoyed a dance together to some of the best love song classics. After all the dancing we had a delicious Valentine's buffet complete with a chocolate fountain which residents found very fun and exciting! There were lots of full and satisfied residents by the end of these parties
