Alfred celebrates 100th birthday at Laverstock Care Centre
Everyone at a Salisbury care home celebrated a resident’s 100th birthday by throwing a special party in his honour.
The staff joined Alfred Baker, who is a popular resident at Laverstock Care Centre, in celebrating his centenary birthday. For the special day Alfred had quite a busy time as family members, staff and friends visited him throughout the day.
Alfred, who born in Forest Gate, London, on 30 March 1915, was one of eight children. He served in the Territorial Army before going to North Africa as a Quarter
master Sergeant during the Second World War. He went on to work in the police force as a special constable and then as a caretaker at Leytonstone before finally working at the police courts, as a cook for the serving judges.
Alfred likes listening to country and western music as well as easy listening music and is very interested in Grand Prix motor racing. He still enjoys the odd glass of beer and celebrated with one on his birthday in the company of his two sisters and one brother, alongside other family members and friends.
Care home manager Helen Pessell said:
“Alfred is a much loved resident. Everyone enjoyed celebrating his milestone event with hi
m.
He particularly liked receiving his card from the Queen.”
Located on the outskirts of Salisbury, Laverstock Care Centre is a purpose-built home that provides residential, specialist nursing and dementia care for up to 80 elderly ladies and gentlemen.
