All that Jazz at Whittington House
18th November 2016
Whittington House Nursing Home residents were entertained by the fabulous duo Mrs Peel and Steve at their home in Cheltenham this week.
As a duo, Mrs Peel sings and plays percussion with virtuoso guitarist Steve Franks and they thoroughly entertained our residents, as well as members of our team with their musical set.
Over twelve of our residents attended and really enjoyed the music from their large range and special choice of vintage songs, show tunes and singalong; including familiar sounds from Motown, jazz, and Irish songs. Residents were also able to give their requests too which was great for them as it evoked many happy memories and encouraged everyone to participate. It was a wonderful act to make our musical afternoon go with a swing and sparked lots of excitement and discussion both before and after the event. At Whittington House, we know the effect of music can have and the psychological benefits for our residents; such as a happier outlook on life, better social interaction, enhanced mood and interest levels and increased communication in dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, to name just a few.Studies also show that music promotes positive overall health and those that listen and interact with music can demonstrate improved memory and recall, better sleeping patterns, diminished pain, increased overall cognitive abilities and lessened need for medication... Again just a fraction of the benefits for our residents. All in all, it was such a great activity for our residents, we look forward to welcoming this musical duo back to our home soon.If you would like to find out more about life and our events at Whittington House Nursing Home, please contact us on [email protected] or telephone 0808 223 5396.[gallery ids="16251,16254,16253"]
