American Day at Whittington
19th September 2018
Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham, hosted another “Food from around the World” day. For this visit we were going to America. Flags were made by art club which were placed on each of the dining tables on all floors. The residents and their relatives got in the spirit and came in red white and blue. The morning was finished off with Pop Corn and Film Club showing the ever popular John Wayne in the film A Man From Utah. The in house chef prepared some of the more typically American food including Philadelphia Pepper Soup, Mild Chilli & Cheese Hot Dog’s and of course a Mississippi Mud Pie. The food went down well there were a few residents reaching for some water for most of the afternoon saying that the soup and the hot dogs were a little hot and spicy! The afternoon was rounded off with a welcome visit from Lisa Lee an experienced local dance teacher. She came prepared dressed in red white and blue and had American themed music too. Lisa gave us a varied programme of seated exercises including some dance routines which we had to concentrate and try and remember. The whole afternoon was a lot of fun with laughter singing and socialising which is so good to lift everyone’s mood and for their well-being.We will definitely be inviting Lisa Back!Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire is a modern, purpose-built home and provides residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 66 people. If you would like to find out more about life at Whittington House, or would like to speak to a member of our team, please contact us on 0808 223 5396 or [email protected].
