Austrian National Day comes to Sanford House
28th October 2016
Sanford House in East Dereham held a day in honour of Austrian National Day this month as part of their Wish List initiative.Three residents at Sanford all wished to visit Austria, unfortunately this was not practical, so the home organised an Austrian Day to celebrate all things Austrian. Austria's National Day is held on October 26 when they celebrate their country's declaration of permanent neutrality after World War II and its regained status as an independent and sovereign nation on October 26, 1955.With this Joan, Home Manager at Sanford, thought it would be the perfect day for this particular wish to be brought to life. The Austrian national flag is omnipresent throughout the country and memorial ceremonies are held in many locations, Sanford House didn't let them down as they hung the Austrian flag around the home.Staff dressed up in traditional national clothing with the ladies wearing trachts and dirndl skirts, whilst the men wore leder hosen (as seen in the above picture). The residents and relatives enjoyed Austrian folk music and food such as gulasch and apple strudel through the afternoon. To end the day the residents of course all watched the Sound of Music. It was definitely a day for all to remember.[gallery link="file" columns="4" size="medium" ids="15654,15655,15656,15657"]The Wish List programme at Sanford House has continued to provide residents with the dreams that they never thought could happen, and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future.Sanford House provides specialist residential and dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 40 elderly people. If you would like to find out more about life at Sanford House and the care we offer, or to request a meeting with our Home Manager, please contact us on 0808 223 5533 or [email protected].
