Bernie’s Nostalgia Club at Guysfield
4th June 2018
At Guysfield care home in Letchworth, residents and team recently welcomed Bernie with his Cinema show called "Nostalgia Club".Bernie’s Cinema show is very interactive with lots of props such as funny sun glasses, music instruments, puppets, royal face masks, pictures of old cars, magic show, bubble wand for blowing bubbles, to name just a few.The idea of these sessions was to involve each of our residents to enjoy the show, help keep people’s minds active, stimulated, build up confidence and trigger memories to help our residents recall personal experiences from their individual pasts. Using all the props and projecting the familiar songs clips and movies from the past prompted our residents to recount stories from their past. These sessions also provide a great opportunity for our residents and team to bond and become more familiar which each other. With lots of fun everyone got involved in the show alongside the residents and team. Pawel, our Home Manager also got dressed up in green clothes and joined the group. There were a few comments about how funny he looked! At the end of the show, we held a little ceremony where we chose four winning residents for their enthusiastic participation and they were delighted to receive their winners golden trophy cup and pictures taken during the show. There was lots of emotion in the air; one of our residents even had tears in her eyes and she said
"This brings back memory from the time my children were little."
This way of reminiscence definitely encouraged great emotions and brought everyone together and we all agreed was a resounding success. At Guysfield we know that by our residents joining in and participating in activities together, creates a much more person centred event which benefits in wellbeing and gives a positive outcome.Everyone wore huge smiles on their faces from our residents to our team and they all wanted to know when Bernie will come next time. At Guysfield, taking guidance from our residents, we plan varied and fulfilling activities to suit them personally so with this in mind, we have booked him up for the rest of the year and he will back every month. He is a very welcome visitor to our home. Our next session is planned for June and subject of reminiscence will be “School Days" - we can’t wait!At Guysfield Residential Home we provide residential and dementia care for up to 49 elderly people. If you would like to find out more about life at Guysfield, please contact us 0808 223 5509 or [email protected].[gallery size="medium" ids="27389,27390"]
