Broadbridge Park Residents Pay A Visit To A Secret Garden
Any opportunity to spend time in an outdoor setting when the sun is shining is a real treat, so when residents of Broadbridge Park Care Home in Horsham were invited to explore a secret garden recently, they were delighted to accept.
The Perfect Setting For An Elegant Afternoon
The owners of Ewhurst, a private estate nearby, kindly asked whether a group of residents would like to spend an afternoon enjoying their fabulous grounds and the answer was a definite “yes please!” The sun shone brightly as eight residents set off in the community minibus for the 30 minute drive to the estate, taking in stunning views of the South Downs along the way. The sense of anticipation was heightened when they turned in and sailed up an impressive driveway, pulling up at the elegant frontage of the main house.
Like a scene from Downton Abbey, the party was greeted by Peter the butler, who looked after the excited visitors perfectly. Starting with a tour of the gardens, Peter was a fount of knowledge, sharing a wealth of information about the house as well as the gardens. He then led them into the ‘secret garden’ where he showed them a variety of intriguing objects brought back by the family from their travels.
Tea and Cakes Served in Style by the Pool
Listening to Peter’s stories and taking the tour certainly sparked everybody’s appetite so residents were thrilled when they were seated beside the outdoor pool - with views of the grounds in every direction - to enjoy tea and a selection of delicious cakes. Peter’s charming service, complete with formal white gloves, made the experience extra special. Whether soaking up the afternoon’s rays or enjoying the shade of a wide-canopied tree, the residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The last word goes to resident Ruth who echoed the views of the group, exclaiming, “Smashing! Should have brought my cossie”!
