Brooklyn host Macmillan coffee morning
23rd September 2016
Brooklyn House in Attleborough, enjoyed a morning of coffee with conversation, cakes and critters!Residents, relatives and colleagues tucked into cakes and pastries as they were treated to a visit from Zootastic with the aim of raising money for Macmillan. Macmillan is a charity close to our hearts, it is important that the medical, emotional, practical and financial support, is provided for those suffering with cancer, as well as campaigning for better cancer care. And because cancer affects more than just those facing it, it’s to support friends and family too.Alison, the owner of the mobile petting company said "It has been a real privilege to come to a Macmillan coffee morning." The residents at Brooklyn House were fascinated by the snakes and reptiles and were soothed stroking cute and cuddly pets.It has been widely acknowledged that the use of animals with the elderly can help them cope with the feeling of being isolated and withdrawn, especially if they had a pet before going into a care home. The experience of meeting, seeing and touching animals always proves very beneficial to the residents; it creates a stimulating and therapeutic activity.Joan, one of our residents, bravely held a python, “Look at my new necklace”, she remarked!Brooklyn House provides specialist nursing care in a purpose built environment for up to 38 elderly people. If you would like to find out more about life at Brooklyn House and the care we offer, or to request a meeting with our Home Manager, please contact us on 0808 223 5412 or [email protected].
