Caring Homes Celebrates Two New Queen’s Nurses
We’re incredibly proud of Scarlett MacDonald, New Commissioning Manager and Costin Matei, Home Manager at Parris Lawn Care Home, who were both named Queen’s Nurses at a ceremony in London on Friday 29th November 2024.
A Prestigious Title Awarded for Life
The Queen’s Nurse title symbolises excellence in nursing and can only be attained by an individual nurse who has demonstrated the highest standards of practice and person-centred care. Queen’s Nurse is not an award, but a title given by the Queen’s Nursing Institute following a rigorous application and assessment process. Given for life, it recognises each nurse’s commitment to ongoing learning, leadership and excellence in healthcare.
Commitment to the Cause
Costin began his nursing career in Romania, moving to the UK in 2015 where his first role was as a registered nurse in a care home in West Sussex. In 2020, he joined Parris Lawn Care Home as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Home Manager earlier this year. Here, Costin proudly leads the team in providing holistic, person-centred care for residents at Parris Lawn.
Earlier this year, Scarlett - who has been with Caring Homes for 10 years - was the recipient of the Chief Nurse Gold Award for Adult Social Care. The breadth of Scarlett’s commitment and experience has also led to her appointment as co-Chair for the South East region of Social Care Nurse Advisory Councils (SCNACS), an organisation which focuses on raising the profile of social care nursing.
An Outstanding Achievement
Scarlett and Costin received their Queen’s Nurse certificates and badges - which they immediately pinned on - at the Queen’s Nursing Institute Awards Ceremony and both were delighted with their achievement.
Costin said: “I am honoured to carry the Queen’s Nurse title. It gives me extra motivation as I seek to improve, innovate and discover new ways of enriching the lives of our Parris Lawn residents. Respecting the dignity and individuality of each individual is at the heart of everything we do and I’m proud that this approach is shared by the whole team at Parris Lawn”.
Scarlett added: “I feel immensely proud receiving this award. It’s significant in the social care nursing profession that more social care nurses are being recognised for their outstanding work and commitment to nursing. I will continue to champion the incredible work of our care homes and the difference we make to the lives of people living with us and to wider healthcare teams.”
