Castle View resident Bessie celebrates milestone 100th birthday
29th December 2016
Five generations of family celebrated resident Bessie Horne’s 100th birthday recently at Castle View care home on the Isle of Man on Friday 9th December. The highlight of the afternoon was when the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man, Sir Richard Gozney presented Bessie with a gift and birthday card from The Queen. Sir Richard gave a speech congratulating Bessie on her milestone birthday before mingling with her family and residents of Castle View. This was Sir Richard’s first visit to Castle View and he was met on arrival by Home Manager John Adair who escorted him to join in this family occasion.Bessie has six children, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Throughout her 100 years, Bessie has never stepped foot off the Isle of Man, maintaining that all she needed was right here on the Island. That is despite her late husband having sailed over the world as a merchant navy seaman.Home Manager John Adair said “Castle View is proud that it now has two resident centurions with Elizabeth Kissack also having reached the landmark in May.It was wonderful to see so many different generations all come together to share in Bessie’s special day. We always facilitate a family’s wishes for their loved one to celebrate a birthday and have all the family here. Bessie was full of smiles at having her whole family around her and they all thoroughly enjoyed the party.”Happy birthday Bessie!
