Castle View take to the coast

Some of the residents at Castle View Nursing Home in Peel enjoyed a trip on the Grey Fox last week.

Here, at Castle View, we like to take the time to understand our residents’ needs and wants, and therefore undertook a bucket list. A few residents said that they would like to go out into the harbour on a boat. One person in particular ‘Jack’ really expressed that he would like to specifically go into Peel Harbour. Jack used to be part of the fisherman community and loved being on a boat, this trip enabled Jack to recall a lot of memories and reminisced about the ‘good old days’.

The Grey Fox took us on a Manx Sea Safari to discover the Island's fantastic coastal landscapes and sea life. Being on our emerald waters in this beautiful part of the world gave our residents a sense of well being and excitement.

The excursion provided everyone with the opportunity to sail out of Peel Bay, see the outskirts of Peel Castle and venture around the coast of the Island to the picturesque Niarbyl Bay with a tour guide who told us about our surroundings. As well as sea caves and stunning scenery the west coast is a hotspot for wild seabirds and often families of seals, visiting pods of dolphins and basking sharks can be spotted, although we didn’t see any on the day, maybe next time!

Jack, Moreen, Mona and Ted all had an amazing trip out in the boat and the Manx fresh air really blew the cob webs off all of us!

Getting the residents fulfilling their bucket lists gives them a sense of achievement, moreover boosting their self-esteem.

Castle View Nursing Home is a purpose-built home providing nursing and dementia care for up to 66 elderly residents.
