Cheltenham’s new mayor joins in Whittington House celebrations

Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, welcomed friends, family and the new Mayor of Cheltenham Councillor Klara Sudbury to the Whittington House Open Day this week.The day was planned to celebrate the good rating which the home has been awarded from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and show off the recent refurbishment carried out at the Whittington Road home.The home – which was taken over by Caring Homes last year and provides residential and nursing care for up to 66 people who have nursing needs – was rated as providing a ‘good’ overall care service in the inspection.Cllr Sudbury opened the event with a ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially launch the refurbished rooms. The Mayor was also pleased to judge the in-house competition Whittington in Bloom and spent time meeting and speaking to residents as well as taking part in an Oomph activity session.Activities coordinator Jo Cann who organised the successful event with fellow activities coordinator Jenny Spencer and home manager Lyndsey Dixon said: “The residents enjoyed helping to plan the day, making cakes and working hard in teams to create and nurture their raised beds for the in bloom competition.“We were delighted to welcome the new Mayor to Whittington as well as all the other guests who took part in our open day.”The day also included music from the Glenfall School Band and complementary BBQ food for everyone.In the recent CQC inspection the home was praised for the friendly and respectful staff who knew the residents well.
