Community Kindness Brings Festive Cheer To Hillside Care Home
Residents at Hillside Care Home in Sudbury, Suffolk, were overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community when they received specially chosen Christmas gifts as part of a nearby restaurant’s festive initiative.
Giving Tree Connects Residents with the Local Community
Every year, Prado Lounge in Sudbury chooses a different charity or care home to partner with in their Giving Back scheme and this year, Hillside was offered the opportunity to participate in their Giving Tree initiative. The Wellbeing team thought the initiative was a lovely idea for the residents and that it would make Christmas a little bit more special for those who don't have much family contact. Each resident was asked individually whether they would like to be part of the scheme and what gift they would like, then the information was shared with Jesse at Prado Lounge.
The Giving Tree was set up at Prado Lounge and, using the information gathered from Hillside’s residents, tags were displayed indicating a lady or gentleman and the specific gift they would like to receive. Anyone from the local community then had the opportunity to choose a tag, purchase the present, and return it to Prado Lounge, with the Hillside team all set to collect the gifts in time to put under the tree before the big day.
Blown Away by Acts of Generosity
These presents were given out on Christmas morning by the Wellbeing team and each gift also came with a special message from the person who purchased the gift. The residents were blown away by these acts of generosity. Resident Margaret said it was a wonderful thing for a stranger to do, saying it was so kind and caring and that she was very grateful. Resident Ada couldn't wait to put her new scarf on, whilst another resident who had received a nice cosy blanket admired the colour and commented that it was so soft and cosy.
The team at Hillside were very happy that their residents were chosen as this year’s Giving Tree recipients and hugely appreciated the support of the Prado Lounge staff, who, alongside kind friends and neighbours from the local community, have brought some extra Christmas cheer to Hillside this festive season.
