Deputy Manager Leanne Appointed To South West Social Care Nursing Advisory Council

31st July 2024

We are delighted to share the news that Leanne Vinakadina, Deputy Manager at Laverstock Care Centre, has been appointed to the South West Social Care Nursing Advisory Council (SCNAC).

Social care nursing advisory councils (SNACS) exist across seven regions which incorporate every ICB (Integrated Care Board) in England and are chaired by nursing colleagues from across the sector. Each Chair forms a board of representatives from the local area and this team works with the Director of Nursing in each ICB to provide a better and wider understanding of nursing across the health and adult social care sectors.

Social Care Nursing the Best Career Move I Ever Made

Leanne joined the Laverstock team as Deputy Manager in 2022. She has worked in social care since 2015 but started her nursing career with the NHS, primarily working in Trauma and Orthopedics. An army posting for her husband resulted in a move to Wiltshire and with a young family, Leanne found that social care offered the shift flexibility she needed. “Because my husband was working during the day, I needed to work night shifts but there weren’t any hospitals close enough for me to get home in time to allow him to leave for work on time. Until then, I had never considered a career within social care but it was the best career move I ever made! I loved working in nursing homes from day one and found It both challenging and extremely rewarding”.

SCNACS Highlight the Significance of Social Care Nursing

The aim of all SCNACs is to improve the quality of care and support provided to individuals in social care settings across each region. Leanne’s role as member of the South West SCNAC highlights her dedication and expertise in the field of social care nursing, and also her commitment to raising the sector’s profile. She explained, “It is really important to highlight the significance of social care nursing and give it the recognition it needs. The nurses within social care have so much responsibility and need to have very good clinical judgement and I don’t think they get the recognition they deserve. The developments and changes being made in social care nursing are very exciting and really give us a voice to be heard. This is especially true for the development of the SCNAC”.

The Impact of Leanne’s New Role

In her capacity as a SCNAC member, Leanne will collaborate with other industry leaders to address key challenges and promote innovative solutions in social care nursing. She continued, “I think it will have a really big impact for our residents and our teams, ensuring that we have our seat at the table and are involved in the exciting changes to come in social care nursing. On a personal level, I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity and am very excited to get started”.
