Emotional visit for Husband & Wife at Laverstock

22nd March 2021

Caring Homes is delighted to be welcoming friends and family members back into our Homes to visit their loved ones.

Last Thursday Laverstock resident John Norris had a visit from his wife Joyce. They hadn’t seen each other in person since John was transferred from hospital to the home three months ago. Although they have kept in touch everyday via Facetime, the fact that they are now able to meet and Joyce was able to see John’s bedroom meant everything to both of them.

It was very emotional and tears were shed. The couple spoke about holidays they had taken together and they sang songs – in particular John’s favourite ‘I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts’ – and then Joyce read him an old war time story. Laverstocks’ CRA Jemma Barr witnessed the reunion and stated “it was such a beautiful moment I most definitely did cry. True love right there!”

Joyce cannot wait to visit again this week!

Laverstock is a spacious and modern care home located in Salisbury. It has 80 bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms and is beautifully furnished, with a range of comfortable lounges as well as a hair salon.

Since the start of the Covid pandemic a year ago Caring Homes, which runs 69 Homes across the country, has followed all Government guidance as well as introducing strict policies of its own around visiting, admissions and testing. The primary concern has always been the safety of our existing residents and our care teams.

Managing Director Tracey Fletcher-Ray explained, “We absolutely understand how challenging it has felt for our residents to be apart physically from their visitors these past months as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic and will be doing all that we can to enable safe and regular visits both indoors and outdoors from now on.

“The joy of seeing relatives and friends spend treasured time with loved ones has always been central to life in our Homes. Visits now may well feel different due to the continued restrictions placed upon us all. The tests and procedures are necessary to help prevent the further spread and transmission of the virus and we know that our relatives and friends will support us by doing all they can to keep everyone safe as they visit with their loved ones.”

At Caring Homes we're doing everything we can to keep our residents, their families and our colleagues safe. We're open for safe admissions, managing visits and routinely testing everyone.

Visitors are required to have a Covid test and to wear PPE for the visit and named visitors are able to sit in the same room as their loved one and hold hands.

We have strict Infection Control Assurance measures in place to safeguard our residents, colleagues and all visiting professionals. Weekly testing of all colleagues and monthly testing of all residents is being carried out as per current government guidance. New residents benefit from a personalised wellbeing plan during their initial 7-14 days and we welcome named visitors to help them settle in.
