Fashion Show Brings A Splash of Colour To An Attleborough Outing
Brooklyn House Care Home resident, Pearl, is a great fan of shopping and one of her favourite ‘out and about’ activities is to spend a morning browsing the boutiques in the nearby Attleborough town.
Inspired by a Love of Fashion
On a recent shopping trip, Pearl spotted a poster for an event at Attleborough’s Connaught Hall – one of many community activities hosted there. It advertised a fashion show in conjunction with Star Throwers Cancer Support, with one of Pearl’s favourite shops – No 10 Boutique – showcasing its latest fashions. "I would really love to go", Pearl told the team, so Brooklyn House’s Wellbeing Coordinators, Cat and Agnes, decided to make her wish come true.
When the day of the event arrived, Pearl and her friend, fellow resident Jean, were joined by Cat and Agnes on the short journey to Attleborough. The weather was rather grey and drizzly, but once they’d arrived at Connaught Hall, things perked up considerably. The vibrant colours of the light, summery clothes being modelled were a delight, and the ladies found it great fun to see a live catwalk display. Pearl remarked, “The summer dresses looked so bright and cheerful, and I loved the fabrics”. Pearl used to run a handbag stall on the markets and has always had an eye for fashion, so she was also interested to find out that the collection on display was inspired by style guru Gok Wan’s ‘One Size Fits All’ campaign which aimed to boost body confidence in women.
Cancer Charity Benefits from Catwalk Success
Both Pearl and Jean are passionate about the Star Throwers Cancer Support charity. Pearl is a survivor of cancer herself, as were some of the models on the day, so the event had a deeper significance, as well as giving both residents the pleasure of seeing some fabulous fashion on display.
There was of course tea, coffee and cake on offer – always a treat - and a 10% discount on all purchases, which excited everyone.
Pearl's next dream is to host a fashion show at Brooklyn House in May, with No 10 Boutique supplying the clothes. With her passion for fashion and a great team behind her, that dream might just become a reality, so watch this space!
