Guysfield travel to Italy
Residents at Guysfield Care Home in Letchworth enjoyed a trip to Italy this month!
On the morning of the event the Blue Room lounge was transformed into an airport, ready and waiting for our residents to begin their journey. On entry to the lounge, residents were handed their boarding passes, with the excitement building and discussions starting about where they were going and what was going to happen they took their seats.
The TV was used to take residents on a flight, as we watched a video on YouTube of a plane taking off. Once we were safely landed, we made our way to the outdoor Italian café.
Italian music played in the background, which set the scene and later some residents were encouraged to sing and have a dance. As we took our seats in teh cafe, residents ordered drinks and snacks and we began discussing pictures of Italian landmarks. This was a great conversation starter and helped us to exchange our holiday experiences. We also took an Italian quiz and learnt some fun facts.
We walked back inside for an Italian themed lunch. On the menu there were: vegetable lasagne, pasta carbonara and tiramisu. Staff also went round to the residents who didn't wish to participate in the group activity and were offered Italian snacks and some fun and stimulating activities to do in their bedrooms.
After the lunch we continued with the Italian theme with word searches based on Italian landmarks and types of pasta, finishing the day listening to relaxing opera music.
This event was a great fun, engaging, stimulating and cultural.
