Halloween Party at Hawkhill

1st November 2016
The residents at Hawkhill House in Milltimber, celebrated All Hallows Eve with a party. All the residents, their guests and the care team at Hawkhill came along to the party which was held in the front room. We had a special visit from Critter Keepers that arrived with exotic animals at 11am. Animals can be therapeutic for the elderly, they provide affection, bonds and good feeling without anyone really being aware of the good being done. Moods and morale can both be lifted. They also help with social interaction, some residents may prefer not to interact with others, but animals bring them out of their room and help reduce any feelings of social isolation. There were lots of “Ooh’s”, “Ahh’s” and “Oh’s” as the animals were taken out and given to the residents to hold.Which animals do you ask? We were delighted to meet a Red Iguana, Bearded dragon, Python, Tree frog, Tarantula, Tortoise, Hedgehog, Cockroach and even a Racoon! All the snakes were admired, everyone thought they were beautiful, even though some didn’t want to touch them, but we did have a couple of very brave residents. The day culminated in a successful raffle, with donated prizes, raising £280 in total. Well done everyone![gallery columns="4" size="medium" link="file" ids="15892,15891,15890,15889"]Hawkhill House provides specialist nursing and dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 43 elderly people. If you would like to find out more about life at Hawkhill House and the care we offer, or to request a meeting with our Home Manager, please contact us on 0808 223 5322 or hawkhill@CaringHomes.org.
