Horsell Lodge's Bake Club Brings Residents Together to Share Sweet Successes
Horsell Lodge residents are getting their aprons on and putting their baking skills to the test with the launch of the care home's new Bake Club. The initiative started in February to encourage the residents to get involved in all aspects of life at the home. The group meets at least once a week to whip up sweet treats like triple chocolate cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and fresh bread to go with their soup.
Home Manager, Julie Bignell, said, "We wanted to provide residents with an opportunity to bake whatever they want and understand that they can bake whatever they used to at home." The Bake Club not only provides an enjoyable activity for residents but also helps them to read recipes, follow a method successfully, and then enjoy their bakes over a cup of tea in the afternoon, around the dining table.
The team are really pleased with how well it has been received by residents and the team. "All residents sit around tables together in the dining room and take turns to make and mix the batter. It's been wonderful to see them connect with each other and build relationships through this activity," Julie added.
The Horsell Lodge Bake Club is a fantastic way to bring residents together in a fun and engaging way. Who knows, maybe one day they'll be publishing a cookbook of their famous recipes!
