International Nurses Day is celebrated on Florence Nightingales birthday
International Nurses Day is celebrated on Florence Nightingales' birthday on May 12 every year. Her words, quotes and life's work have inspired many. In honour of this special day, we look at how we are doing our bit to inspire others.
For people who need more help in life, and the people who love them, choosing a home to live in can be a difficult, and emotional, decision. For nearly 30 years, we’ve helped make that decision a little easier, and made life a lot better for so many. We’ve done it by understanding what matters to every resident. Because if it matters to them and their families, it matters to us. That’s why we listen to residents and their families to understand what they love to do.
And for every extraordinary home, it’s the outstanding people who work in and around them that helps people choose a Caring Home. Just as every resident has a fascinating life story to share, we have an incredible work story to tell too. Stories such as our Nurse Mentorship and the Care Home Assistant Practitioner Programme, both of which are Assured by The Institute of Leadership & Management and City & Guilds respectively.
In response to pressures on the healthcare sector throughout the pandemic, we created an in-house programme to train overseas recruits to become nurses and address a national skills shortage. As well as securing a valuable workforce, Caring Homes has created a culture of inclusivity, fully supporting international trainees to pass the required exam whilst offering wider pastoral support. ”
More recently, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, welcomed Caring Homes, alongside 47 other organisations, to celebrate receiving a Princess Royal Training Awards (PRTA) for commitment to training and development in 2021. This the fourth time, Caring Homes training programmes have been recognised by The Princess Royal Training Awards, for inspirational commitment to learning and development.
Liz Willis, Director of Learning and Organisational Development at Caring Homes, said, “We are delighted that our training programmes have been recognised and we have been included among those organisations to receive one of these coveted training awards for a fourth time. At Caring Homes, we wholeheartedly believe that investing in our colleagues, their learning and ongoing development is pivotal to the success of our organisation, the exceptional standards of care, safety and wellbeing we provide our residents and indeed the way in which we have risen to the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented.
“As an organisation, we pride ourselves on our openness and transparency and as such we are always keen to share our best practice approaches and initiatives with the wider nursing community in order to enhance knowledge, to improve the way in which care is provided and to ultimately promote patient safety and quality care. One way we have approached this is through sharing our Nurse Development initiatives at meetings involving Skills for Care, the Royal College of Nursing, and NHS Trusts.
