It's A Wifi Xmas For Residents At Brooklyn Nursing Home

21st December 2015
Residents at Brooklyn Nursing Home, Attleborough, Norfolk, won't be lonely this Christmas thanks to new wifi helping them to keep in touch with friends and family all over the world.Kathryn Abbs, Acting Home Manager, Brooklyn House Nursing Home, was inspired by the latest Christmas John Lewis ad and wanted to ensure her residents could connect with loved ones wherever they may be. She says: "We're blessed with so much wonderful technology I wanted to ensure our residents could be with their nearest and dearest this Christmas. Many of our residents are 'silver surfers' and a lot also have grandchildren all over the world, so this is one way we can make their Christmas extra special."Recent statistics has shown that the older generation has been quick to adapt to new technologies. 90% of over 65s use email compared to just 73% of those aged 12 - 17 and Facebook's audience is comprised of 45% of over 65s. With Skype becoming a word in the English dictionary and reaching a worldwide audience of over 145 million, this Christmas hundreds of thousands of people will be able to connect and see their loved ones from care homes in Attleborough to beach-side barbecues in Australia.Commenting on the wifi, one visitor to Brooklyn House remarked: "This is the best Christmas present I could have received. Thanks to the wifi my mum will now be able to see her grandson on Christmas Day! He's currently travelling around Australia, but with Skype she'll be able to see him, and it will be lovely for him too."
