Keeping life as we like it at Guysfield
At Guysfield Care Home in Letchworth we strongly believe in offering and supporting our residents with daily living skills.
There are many benefits of promoting independence through activities such as; a sense of achievement and purpose, fulfilling residents wishes to maintain the lifestyle they left behind, getting to know a person's habits, lifestyle choices, establishing connections and building knowledge about our residents, feeling valued and important, exercising, keeping occupied, socializing.
As you can see from the photos, Vivian loves watering plants and looking after our garden. She does amazing job and is really proud of it. She usually tells me about her life and how happy she feels being outside and being able to have different jobs around the home.
Today we encouraged teamwork and the ladies were singing, chatting and folding the laundry. Joy also assisted with setting the tables for lunch. When I said: "Thank you so much ladies for your hard work", Joy said, "I love helping out, I always looked after my home, and I used to be a teacher.
At Guysfield we offer various tasks to trigger muscle memory: cooking, singing, dancing, flower arranging, folding laundry, matching socks, folding serviettes, dusting, putting dishes away to name but a few.
As the studies show, participating in daily living tasks have positive impact on people living with dementia.
