Latham Lodge research nurse wins award
The team at Latham Lodge Nursing and Residential Care Home in Purbrook are celebrating after a clinical research nurse won a top award in the prestigious Nursing Times Awards 2018.
Home manager Sylvia Morse-Carter attended the black-tie awards event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London with NHS Solent nurse Sharon Simpson who won the award for Clinical Research Nursing.
Sharon spends much of her time at Latham Lodge where she has been carrying out research as part of the FINCH study into falls. It is the third time Latham Lodge has hosted research projects, working together with other healthcare providers in Hampshire. Latham Lodge received a Care Home Research Partnership Award earlier this year.
Care Home Manager Sylvia Morse-Carter said; “Lots of residents at Latham Lodge participate in the studies which can take up to a year to complete.
“This is an excellent example of partnership working and we all feel like winners through our involvement in this latest research.”
Many Latham Lodge colleagues assist in collecting data for the research, added Sylvia, and this time one who deserves a special mention for all her help is Linda Grady who is a team leader at Latham Lodge.
The current research project is coming to an end and Sylvia hopes to have a celebration at Latham Lodge to mark everyone’s participation and Sharon’s win. The Nursing Times Awards are sponsored by the National Institute for Health Research.
Latham Lodge, part of Caring Homes, was formerly a substantial 1930’s family residence in Purbrook, Portsmouth. The home has been sensitively converted to provide the highest standards of nursing care for up to 37 elderly people in an environment that retains a real sense of home.
