Laverstock activities in line for top dementia care award

Barry Pentelow, Activities Coordinator at Laverstock Care Centre in Salisbury has been shortlisted for National Dementia Care Award. He is one of just five finalists from across the UK in line for the accolade of Best Activities Coordinator for people living with dementia.The award is made to ‘a person who has made an exceptional contribution to the quality of life, health and happiness of all the people they work with through the activities they provide’. Interviews will be taking place in London on 10th October with the winners announced at a gala dinner on 3rd November in Brighton.Laverstock provides residential, specialist nursing and dementia care for up to 80 elderly people. Barry has worked at the London Road care home for more than ten years and has even published a book of poems entitled ‘The Good Olde Days’ which features strongly in his reminiscence sessions with Laverstock’s residents.Helen Pessell, Home Manager at Laverstock Care Centre, says: “I am delighted that Barry has been shortlisted for the award.
