Laverstock Team Joins Fundraising Effort On ‘A Walk To Remember’
When Laverstock Care Centre heard about ‘A Walk To Remember’ - a five mile circular walk near Salisbury organised to raise funds for Alzheimer's Support - several members of our team were keen to take part.
The Walkers Assemble
Many of Laverstock’s residents are living with dementia so this was the perfect opportunity to get involved and fundraise for something close to their hearts. The Laverstock walkers – Glenn, Caitlin, Alex, Steven and Sulueti - also signed up Suz from Hobbs Rehabilitation who work out of Laverstock Care Centre, plus Caitlin’s husband Chris and Sulueti’s friend Lokelani.
Billed as ‘the friendliest memory walk in the west’, the walk was routed around the beautiful grounds of Wilton House, the elegant ancestral home of the Earl Pembroke for over four and a half centuries. It was a fabulous setting and when the day arrived, the sun shone obligingly as the team met for coffee and breakfast at Wilton House. With every step raising funds for dementia, it was important to start the day fully fuelled!
Sunshine, Music and Magic
Keeping a steady pace, the walk took under two hours – which seemed like no time at, surrounded by such a beautiful landscape - and there was a real sense of camaraderie amongst the Laverstock walkers and everyone else taking part.
As well as raising much needed funds, ‘A Walk to Remember’ was intended to be a sociable, fun day out with post-walk entertainment which included thirteen-year-old magician Oli Clark. Oli had performed at events throughout the summer, raising funds for Alzheimer’s Support in honour his grandmother who was recently diagnosed with dementia. Local ukulele enthusiasts, ‘The Salisbury Pluckers’, provided some upbeat tunes while everyone enjoyed the sunshine and satisfaction in a walk well done.
A Heartfelt Tribute
Proudly sporting their ‘A Walk to Remember’ t-shirts and finishers’ medals, the Laverstock team felt a real sense of pride as they reflected on the day. Customer Relationship Manager, Glenn Schafer said,
“Today's 'Walk to Remember' from Laverstock was not just a journey through the countryside but a heartfelt tribute to the loved ones we carry with us in our hearts. Alongside the Laverstock Care Centre's dedication to dementia care, many of us have families affected by this condition, so the walk meant so much more. It was a powerful reminder of the strength in community, memory, and love—a day where we came together, walked together, and remembered together."
