Love Is All Around – Caring Homes 30th Anniversary Celebrated In Brooklyn House Style!
The Brooklyn House team and residents enjoyed a busy week packed with fun activities that brought relatives, friends and the community into the home, which was also marking Care Home Open Week.
Multicultural Theme to Monday’s Coffee Morning
Monday saw the week launch with an ‘Open Doors, Open Hearts’ coffee morning. This fitted nicely with the multicultural day being held at Brooklyn House which meant there was an assortment of cakes from several countries on offer. The day continued with the team bringing in food from their countries and wearing the national costume or colours of the flag. It was a day full of diversity as residents, team members and friends enjoyed trying new things and hearing about different countries. This was followed by ‘silly games’ session - have you ever tried peeling a banana with a blunt dinner knife! Everyone then got involved with decorating the home and there were some amazing colours on view as Brooklyn House was prepared for the party.
On Tuesday the vinyl record collection was brought out for a musical reminiscence session - this is always popular as music can conjure up all sorts of memories that residents often share.
A Musical Birthday Treat, a Special Cake and Quiz 'n Chips
Wednesday was the day of the big birthday party. One of the residents’ favourite musicians, Nick Stephenson, came to play his guitar and sing popular songs from years gone by, including hits by Queen, The Beatles, Buddy Holly and The Who. Neighbours from Sanctuary Housing Supported Living came to join in the fun and the Caring Homes 30th birthday cake was officially cut - and eaten! It was lovely to share the day with the wider community.
Thursday saw the return of one of Brooklyn House’s best loved activities, ‘Quiz ‘n Chips’ night. Five teams were put together including residents, relatives and friends from the community. After three rounds The Bunwell Babes knocked reigning champs Ray’s Angels off their perch, ending their winning streak!
Sharing Memories and Making Ones with the Local Community
The week finished on a high. Residents and the team went out into the community after receiving an invitation from Pride Homecare to celebrate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Everyone enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new people, and there was a moving speech from a member of the British Legion followed by a 40's singer, a singalong and a tasty fish and chip lunch.
It was an eventful week where residents, team members, families, friends and neighbours remembered the past, but also enjoyed making new memories as the community came together.
