March fun at Mellish House
Mellish House have had an exciting month so far, with lots to be celebrated. We kick started the month celebrating pancake day which was great fun. We had a big group of residents come together in the lounge for a pancake tossing competition which the ladies took very seriously showing off all their skills! They were all very good at it. We then had a go at a game called stack the pancakes which tested residents' hand eye co-ordination skills and if they wanted a harder version, they had to follow a pancake topping pattern on a selected card.
We were very lucky to receive five free iPod and headphone sets from a wonderful dementia charity called World Rocks Against Dementia. Residents had a lovely relaxed time testing them out with one resident, Maureen, listening to hers until it ran right out of battery.
We've thoroughly enjoyed making the most of this lovely bright spring weather this month taking a couple of residents each week for a little outing to get some take away fish and chips. Some also went to feed the ducks. They have absolutely loved being out and about and they all polished off all the fish and chips.
This month we also got our new badminton net and rackets and a few residents wore themselves out having a good game of balloon badminton. It always makes us smile when their competitive streaks comes out. We had a new visitor this week called Poppy. I'm not sure who was more excited the residents or Poppy! Lots of fuss and love and attention was given and received all round.
