Mellish House digs deep for Philippines fundraising effort

28th November 2013

The staff and residents of Mellish House dug deep this week to help people affected by the recent natural disasters in the Philippines.

The money raised was donated to the Bisaya Ako Ikaw (BAI) Charity for their ‘Earthquake ER’ appeal. The appeal helps to support people affected by the recent and biggest earthquake in history to hit Bohol and Cebu, which was then followed by a typhoon that hit the same area, leaving thousands homeless.

The team at the purpose built home hosted a special afternoon café and charged visitors a small fee to enjoy tea, sandwiches and homemade cakes. Many of the visitors gave generous donations on top of their entry fee, taking the total amount raised to a healthy £223.

Mike Baclayon, the President of BAI, joined the home’s staff, residents and relatives for another of their regular café events and was presented with a cheque by Home Manager Maekhala Allan. Mr. Baclayon said that he was overwhelmed by the generosity shown and the funds raised by Mellish House would go towards providing essentials such as food, water, clothing, shelter and medicine to families who have lost everything in the recent plight.

Situated in the quiet village of Great Cornard, Mellish House is a purpose built home providing residential care for up to 48 elderly people living with a form of dementia. . The home is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery.
