Mellish House's Pub
Many of our residents at Mellish House Care Home in Sudbury used to enjoy going to the pub and unfortunately are unable to go either due to their dementia or because of Covid restrictions that are still in place, so we bought the pub to them.
The lounge was set up with 'a bar' decorated with beer mats, fake cigarettes and ashtrays and dimmed lighting with lamps around the room. The bar consisted of alcohol-free beers and wine and classic pub snacks like peanuts, cheese savouries, crisps and a few chocolates. Pub entertainment was set up for our residents, horse and dog racing on the tv, roulette table, snooker table, darts and newspapers were left around to read. We also had an old classic 'pub crawlers' playlist on.
The residents had an amazing time mostly enjoying the snooker table and darts and singing and dancing to the music. Elsie laughed as she pretended to smoke with the fake cigarette and lots of the men loved having their beer bottles to hold while the ladies sung and danced. Chris enjoyed lots of games of snooker, while John had his beer and danced to the music saying, "this is great, its brilliant well done!"
