Mellish take a trip down the River Stour
1st September 2016
The residents from Mellish House in Sudbury this week enjoyed a trip down the River Stour.Mellish House offer the residents to provide ideas on days out they would like to go on over the following month. At the last residents meeting they decided they would really like to go on a boat trip. Glenda and Theresa our Activities Coordinators looked into the idea and found the trip on the River Stour in Sudbury, making it come to life for them. The trip consisted of residents, a relative and two other supporting staff members taking the residents on the mini bus to the River Stour, just a short drive from the home. The residents all had a lovely afternoon out cruising down the river to Great Henny and back, taking in the sights and wildlife. They followed up the invigorating boat trip with refreshments in the café along the river.Grace one of our residents commented, ”I had a wonderful time.”Outings for the residents, especially those with dementia, are very beneficial to body and mind. New scenery and also the exercise, both help the residents keep an active social life which is key to helping someone with dementia feel happy and motivated.Everyone needs a sense of purpose and to enjoy themselves during the day. Encouraging someone with dementia to do something creative, some gentle exercise, or take part in an activity helps them to realise their potential, which improves their self-esteem and reduces loneliness. We look forward to the next suggestion from the residents![gallery size="medium" link="file" ids="15128,15127,15126,15125,15124,15123,15122,15121,15120"]Mellish House provides specialist dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 48 elderly people in Sudbury. If you would like to find out more about life at Mellish House and the care we offer, or to request a meeting with our Home Manager, please contact us on 0808 223 5523 or [email protected]
