Michael the music man visits The Orchard
17th May 2016
The Orchard residents were visited by Michael this week.Michael is a favourite of some of our residents, particularly the ladies. He sang along to some of the golden oldies and crooners, getting the residents involved. Those that were able got up for a little dance whilst other sat and tapped the hands and feet whilst they joined in singing.Singing is not only an enjoyable activity, it can also provide a way for people with dementia, along with their care workers, to express themselves and socialise with others in a fun and supportive group. The power of music, particularly singing, can unlock memories and kick-start the grey matter that is an increasingly key feature of dementia care. Even when many memories are hard to retrieve, music is especially easy to recall. Evidence shows that song can increase physical and emotional well-being by stimulating the senses, increasing attentiveness. We will see you again soon Michael!
