National Carnival Day at Mellish House
We brought Rio Carnival to Mellish House least week, to celebrate National Carnival Day and the staff and residents had great fun. With lots of bright colours and cheerful carnival/samba music Mellish was full of energy. Residents enjoyed a good dance with practicing and learning the samba wiggle, trying on fancy dress masks and boas. Just like a real carnival we even had residents joining in with us as we danced our way around the whole home - like a conga!
After all that dancing and energy residents enjoyed a light snack with refreshing fruits and tried some homemade traditional Brazilian bread called ‘pão de queijo’. Brigadeiro are also a traditional Brazilian truffle, unfortunately ours didn’t turn out so well, so residents enjoyed some English truffles instead.
We finished carnival day watching a lovely, happy and upbeat film called Rio - set in South America, an ideal way to end the day.
