New shop feature at Laverstock
Barry the Wellbeing Co-ordinator at Laverstock Care Centre has been working hard to develop a new shop in the home using one of the rooms. The room has been setup with various areas for the residents to enjoy, including a sweet shop where the residents can visit and use sweet tokens that they receive each week to pick out a sweet treat! There is even a range of sugar free sweet options for residents who are diabetic so that they don't miss out.
The room also features a juke box and is full of sensory decorations such as lava lamps and a TV with fish swimming around, creating a relaxing ambience. It also comes complete with a bar and post office, where there are a range of cards to choose from or the residents can make should they wish to, so they can send a loved one a letter.
Within the home the new room is also known as a 'Wobble Room', so if a particular resident is having a low day or struggling this is somewhere they can go to relax, listen to music and take some time. One resident spent over two hours with Barry as he loved the room so much, interacting with all the different areas and enjoying a chat. The room is a great addition to the home and gives the residents a chance to interact and enjoy some sweet treats at the same time.
