Olympic Fever at Whittington House

29th July 2021

The Activities Team at Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham have been organising their very own Olympics. Residents got into the spirit of the event by creating their own Olympic Rings in preparation for the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony involved the residents’ version of an Olympic Torch Relay around the home, followed by a very delicious afternoon tea. Activity-based care is a key ingredient for our residents to feel engaged and helps socialisation within the home and this Olympic themed activity has been met with much enthusiasm.

Over the last week, several events have been held. First up was the Discus Throwing event. Medals were awarded and a lot of fun was had by all the residents involved.

There has also been an Egg and Spoon Relay Team Competition – although a closely fought contest, with real competition spirit displayed (plus a lot of laughing!), Team Hopeful led by Evelyn, who chose the team name, were victorious and took home the gold! Their egg passing speed was just too much for Team Desperates but Delightful, who took silver.

Everyone involved has really enjoyed this activity so far with more Olympic events to come over the coming weeks.
