The Orchard visit the Garden Centre

22nd June 2016
Residents, at The Orchard Nursing Home in St Albans, had an outing to Aylett Nurseries this week.
A garden centre can be a great environment for someone who wants a pleasant outing, it provides lots of talking points as our residents discuss the plants and flowers they find, bringing back memories of their gardens and also discussing what we could do at The Orchard. The nursery was great for us as there was accessible parking right next to the entrance and exit doors when we arrived. For those of us that were unable to walk all the way round there were wheelchairs we could borrow as the whole site was on one level with ramps to help us get around easily. We were also pleased to see the aisles were wide enough so that we could all move freely without knocking anything over.
There was lots to see, mostly indoors or under a covered walkway so it didn't matter that the weather wasn't perfect on the day.The coffee house was bright and cheery with a great range of food and drinks available to suit almost everyone's taste. After a coffee we ventured into the gift shop to have a look at the goodies available.
This will be become a regular outing for our residents to enjoy the flowers and smells, a cup of coffee and come up with ideas for our own home. It created lots of talking points for us on the day, and some lovely memories for the residents together.
