Pet Therapy at Mellish House
We were very excited at Mellish House Care Home in Sudbury to welcome our Wellbeing Coordinators dog Georgie for our Pet Therapy days.
Interacting with a friendly pet can help many physical and mental issues. It can help reduce blood pressure and improve overall cardiovascular health. It can also release endorphins that produce a calming effect. This can help alleviate pain, reduce stress, and improve your overall psychological state.
The residents thoroughly enjoyed having an animal at the home to pet all day. They asked lots of questions about him, gave him lots of treats, stroked him and laughed as they watched him play with his chew bone.
Georgie received lots of compliments like, "Oh he's such a sweet boy", "Isn't he wonderful", "I love him, he can come home with me!" Sheila H said the next day, "Where's your pup, why haven't you brought your pup in again today I want to see him again?"
This is something we hope to do weekly when possible as the residents have had such an amazing reaction and a great affect on our residents.
