Rememberance American afternoon at Hillside
16th September 2016
At Hillside House in Sudbury, the residents and their care team like to remember events of significance around the world. This month for the remembrance of the 9/11 twin towers disaster the residents had an American afternoon. The residents and care team got together for a number of activities in the home. They began by painting the American flag, these were then put up around the home as decoration and then had a quiz about America.Activity days like this, especially centred around a particular day of interest, are really good for the residents to keep the body and mind strong. Residents found creating the flags fulfilling and gave them a sense of worth and contribution; activities that involve creating help provide a positive outlook, relieving stress and creating an atmosphere for discussion. The residents enjoyed reminiscing and talking about holiday's they'd had in America, some of our residents have family in America who they speak to as often as possible, and they enjoyed telling us all about them and their exciting lives, although sad at times. The day was completed by a movie chosen by the residents and a very good nights sleep by all!Hillside provides residential care for up to 44 elderly people. Located in Sudbury in Suffolk, we also benefit from a close working relationship with our sister home, Mellish House, located next door. Mellish House provides specialist residential support for people living with dementia. Our two homes provide a continuous care pathway offering elderly residents, their families and loved ones, the peace of mind afforded by knowing that changing care needs can be catered for at a single location. For more details or to book an appointment to meet Debbie and her team, please call 0808 223 5511 or click here to send an email.
