Salisbury Care Home excels at dementia training programme
The staff at a Salisbury care home are celebrating this week after being awarded one of the highest recorded scores in a dementia care training programme.
Laverstock Care Centre is one of three homes in the Caring Homes Group that has been selected to pilot the Bee Inspired Dementia Care programme. Four members of staff at the home, including manager Helen Pessell, are overseeing the initiative, which they have been using for the last three months.
The aim of the Bee Inspired Dementia Care programme is to further improve staff knowledge and skills so that everyone in that care setting is delivering excellent and ethical dementia care.
Jackie Poole, who devised the training package, awarded Laverstock Care Centre a 94 % score when she recently returned to validate it.
Laverstock Care Centre Manager Helen Pessell said:
“We are absolutely delighted with our achievement. It’s nice to be recognised as a home delivering an inspiring and specialist care service. We work hard to make the environment here dementia friendly and we are all striving to increase our knowledge so we can further enhance the care our team gives to our residents.”
Just last year, one of Laverstock’s Senior Health Care Assistants, Kelly Bartlett, was shortlisted for the Best Dementia Support Worker award at the National Dementia Awards. Although she did not win the top award, her nomination and subsequent shortlisting demonstrated her commitment to providing high quality dementia care.
Located on the outskirts of Salisbury, Laverstock Care Centre is a purpose-built home that provides residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 80 elderly ladies and gentlemen. The home is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery.
