Salisbury Journal post bag contributors support Laverstock Care Centre

30th December 2016
The care team at Laverstock Care Centre were pleased to read in the Salisbury Journal, two lovely letters praising their hard work and dedication. We are sharing parts of their letters here, with many thanks for their support.Jane Mathias-Jones from Porton wrote….“I visit my mother virtually every day at differing times of the day and night – she has been a resident there for two and a half years. I know that Laverstock Care Centre is not perfect but I imagine its shortcomings are no different from every care home in the country. Dealing with the elderly who have a variety of very challenging needs is not easy.My mother has a particularly severe form of dementia – she does not drink enough and refuses her medication and it is only thanks to the patience, dedication and devoted care for the staff who ensure that she is so well cared for, safe and secure."Felicity Pinder from Fovant wrote…“My husband was at Laverstock for three months before he died and he was so well looked after. He always wanted to be on the move, so they found a way for him to propel his wheelchair with his feet and they let him move about as he wished. Entertainment was there nearly every day, with reminiscing led by activities coordinator Barry, and singing all the old songs people love.I was able to visit my husband at any time and I was always greeted by friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to make sure any complex needs he had were taken care of.I have seen care homes where the occupants rarely leave their rooms so that they have no stimulation. When my husband was too difficult with his many falls for one nursing home to cope, Laverstock took him on and immediately managed him.”Home Manager Helen Pessell said “The team has been cheered by such positive comments from people who really know Laverstock Care Centre well, having visited on countless occasions. Working in care is a vocation - we all love our jobs and are constantly striving to improve upon the quality of care we provide, making life as good as it can be for everyone who lives here.”
