Senior Carer From Blenheim Court Wins ‘Excellence in Delivering Dementia Care’ Award
Back in May, the team at Blenheim Court Care Home in Liss were thrilled to discover that one of their own had been nominated for an award at the Hampshire Care Awards 2024.
Nominated by a Resident’s Daughter
Senior Carer, Iwona Zatylna, had not only been nominated for the Excellence in Delivering Dementia Care Award, she had been selected as a finalist!
Iwona, originally from Poland and an integral member of the team at Blenheim Court, was presented with her 5-year Long Service Award by Home Manager, Sam Booty, last year. She was put forward for the Hampshire Care Awards by a relative of one of the home’s residents, who described in the nomination why she thought Iwona was so special:
“Iwona has been caring for my mother in law for the last 3 years at Blenheim Court, showing considerable care, skill and thoughtful management of her dementia related issues. In addition, Iwona was excellent in an emergency situation when she managed the transfer to hospital for my relative after a fall, recognising the need for medical input. Iwona is calm, informative and caring. She is always friendly and knowledgeable about my relative’s dementia status, her physical, and emotional care needs and her practical situation, smiling and happy with all staff and residents and other relatives”.
Iwona Dedicates the Award to the Team
Team members from Blenheim Court supported Iwona at the event, held at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton on 20th June, and cheered loudly when Iwona was announced as the winner of the Excellence in Delivering Dementia Care Award. Her short acceptance speech was typically humble as she dedicated the award to her team mates, saying it was “…. for all those doing their work with passion and dedication …”
Dementia Care in the Spotlight as Residents Celebrate Iwona’s Achievement
All at Blenheim Court, including the home’s residents and relatives, are exceptionally proud of Iwona’s achievement. Residents and team members threw a surprise celebration party last week, decorating the bistro and applauding Iwona she arrived to receive flowers, a cake and bottle of fizz.
Since the launch of the Caring Homes Dementia Hub earlier this year, our group’s industry-leading dementia care has been in the spotlight and this award is testament to Iwona’s genuine commitment as part of the dedicated team at Blenheim Court.
