‘Singing in the Rain’ for Mellish House
4th July 2018
Mellish House care home residents, relatives and members of our team recently enjoyed a trip to the Quay Theatre in Sudbury, to watch 'Singing in the Rain'.On Monday 2nd July, they eagerly set off on a trip to this local theatre to watch a special dementia friendly screening of this classic movie starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor. This all-time classic musical film comedy features some amazing and very memorable song and dance numbers and everyone was enthralled and watching with rapt attention. Of course, a trip to the cinema would not be complete without some ice-cream too which was eaten before the performance started. The Suffolk Cinema Network supported by Babergh District Council launched these dementia-friendly events. The films are shown in a “safe and welcoming environment”, encouraging those with dementia, as well as their carers and families, to take the opportunity of attending a theatrical show and as a charitable organisation they even offer this experience for free.
Khala Allan, Home Manager saidIt was great to bring our residents out on this trip and benefit from this organisation’s great work in encouraging people living with dementia, to enjoy an outing that they may have previously attended with family and friends.""We know that films and music often trigger memories, can be a gateway to the past and a great connector too. We can definitely say 'What a Glorious Feeling' for everyone and we are delighted that both our residents, their relatives and team members enjoyed and appreciated this trip so much.”“Being involved with the local community is very important to all of here us Mellish House and we’re really looking forward to going back soon.”
