Spiders Webs and Witches Hats – It’s A Hauntingly Good Party at Guysfield Care Home
With Halloween on the horizon, the team and residents at Guysfield seized the opportunity to dress up and host a monstrously magnificent party!
Residents and Team Members get Creepily Creative
The Guysfield Activities team wasted no time in getting preparations underway and a month before the party, everyone started making decorations for the home. Residents were involved in colouring in and painting ghosts, broomsticks and paper chains and of course, pumpkins, featured regularly on the activities table.
Alongside the edible variety, resident Dorothy showed her creative side by making pumpkins out of recycled material and then painting them. This particular style of Halloween crafting brought back memories for Dorothy who said, “I feel like a little girl again. I used to make things like this with my dad”.
‘Dress the Mummy’ Tops the Party Game Poll
On the day of the party, the Housekeeping team were allocated a very strange task – to ensure that all the spiders’ webs were in place! Of course, these were the decorative sort and the team worked hard to ensure that the home was spotlessly clean, regardless of dangling paper webs and hanging broomsticks. Meanwhile, Guysfield’s kitchen team were beavering away preparing lovely food and treats for later.
Residents, team members and relatives all made an effort to dress up, with witches’ hats the must-have accessory of the day. There were even a couple of male witches amongst the residents as everyone gathered to start the day with some spooky party games. ‘Dress the Mummy’ was a popular one as team members were wrapped, bandage-style, to represent the scary Egyptian character!
Freaky Fun and Fizz for Lunch
After the fun and games, the residents and their families enjoyed an hour of live entertainment as the fabulous Magenta Slipperz returned to Guysfield and performed to an appreciative audience. There was dancing and singing along to classic hits like ‘We’re All Going On A Summer Holiday’ and ‘Wonderful World, with resident Margaret B remarking, “I am so happy, this is the best thing that’s happened to me today. I love this music”.
A morning packed with fun, games and entertainment meant that everyone had worked up an appetite so the beautiful buffet, served with lots of variety and options for everyone, was extremely welcome. There was a real buzz at the lunch gathering and the donation of some bottles of prosecco by a family member added an extra swirl of magic to the occasion. “We had a lovely time – lots of fun and laughter”, concluded Margaret, and everyone agreed that a hauntingly happy day had been enjoyed by all!
