Tarring Manor Celebrates Its First Anniversary With Residents, Friends and Neighbours

11th October 2024

Just 12 months ago, Tarring Manor – a brand new purpose build care home, perfectly situated in a secluded spot just outside Worthing – welcomed its very first resident. A year on, the home is very much part of the thriving local community and almost 60 guests gathered to celebrate its first birthday at a special ‘harvest festival’ style event.

Harvest Festival Themed Feast Inspired By Keats Poem

Tarring Manor’s chefs created a feast inspired by the ‘Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’ – the opening line from John Keats’ poem ‘To Autumn’. Hearty homemade vegetable soup and delicious warm apple tart were served with other seasonal nibbles and local cider and prosecco – the perfect combination of wholesome and celebratory!

Guests representing the local community - including Friends of Tarring Park, local councillor, Hazel Thorpe, and members of Tarring’s GP practice - mingled with residents and relatives to create a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.

Reflecting On The First Year, Looking Forward To The Future

There was much reflection on some of the key events from the past 12 months, which included the very first Christmas market, hosting the Tarring community’s Easter Parade where 250 local residents gathered in Tarring Manor’s gardens, and marking VE day in style, to name just a few.

Tarring Manor was committed to being part of the local community from the outset and has built a following at its regular events which are hosted at the home and open to all. These include the weekly Community Wednesday Lunch – re-named the ‘Winter Warmer’ now the seasons are changing, a monthly Dementia Support Group, and the opportunity to come along to a ‘Meet The Manager Open Day’, also held every month. More informally, neighbours with sociable furry friends regularly drop in so that dog-loving residents can enjoy some proper canine interaction!

Celebrating Person-Centred Care In A Very Special Environment

The event was also a celebration of the holistic approach to person-centred care that has developed at Tarring Manor during its first 12 months, and which makes the home so special. The combination of cutting edge design that maximizes light throughout the building, innovative technology which enables residents to have the best possible quality of life and independence, and the fantastic team who provide best in class care, have made Tarring Manor a home in the real sense of the word.

Home Manager, Karen Grainger raised a toast with the assembled guests and added: "It has been a marvellous first year. We have a great team here and we have amazing residents. We are very proud of our home. The location is absolutely stunning and I just love the light. It's like the outside coming in.”

Resident Betty summed it up perfectly: “This home is my home now and with the wonderful care I receive and the people I share my days with, I am proud to call it home.”
