The Community Comes Together To Celebrate 30 Years Of Caring Homes At Horsell Lodge

26th June 2024

Residents and the team at Horsell Lodge planned a summer party to mark 30 years of Caring Homes, and welcomed friends, neighbours and organisations from the local community to join the fun.

Preparations for the Party – and a Special Guest Drops in

Hosting an afternoon tea party was the popular choice with residents, and with the 30th anniversary celebrations falling during Care Home Open Week, it was the perfect opportunity to invite the community to enjoy Horsell Lodge’s fabulous hospitality!

In the run up to the party, which was planned for Saturday afternoon, residents made sure they were ready for the big day by taking part in a fitness class earlier in the week – held at Horsell Lodge and also open to members of the community. The team also welcomed TV personality, artist and avid cyclist, Timmy Mallet, who often drops by as one of his wife’s relatives is a resident. Timmy joined in with a group reading of the Daily Sparkle reminiscence newspaper and said afterwards, “I am so impressed at the kindness of staff towards residents, the beautiful garden and the interaction the residents have with the Daily Sparkle.”

Community Fun Complete with Games and Jelly & Ice Cream

Saturday arrived and the sun shone down as the team and residents welcomed guests to the party. The local community arrived in force with members of the Woking United Reform Church, AgeUK and the Woking Social Club joining neighbours and residents’ families.

Creating bonds with the community in Working is important for Horsell Lodge as many residents were born in the area. A local historian contributed to the day by giving a talk on the history of Woking. Residents found the talk fascinating as it told the story of the town, including pictures, from the 1950’s through to the 1980’s.

Afternoon tea was served and went down a treat, especially the classic dessert - jelly and ice cream – which was as popular with adults as it was with children! There were plenty of games for all to enjoy, including table tennis, pool and fusball tables and bowls. Residents particularly enjoyed throwing a beanbag onto targets – the perfect sport for a sunny afternoon in the garden!

Classic Songs and Cake Cutting by Celia

Local singer, Hannah entertained the gathering with a medley of songs from the 90’s including many great hits from 1994. Everyone was singing along to ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ - Elton John’s Lion King classic and ‘Love Is All Around’, made famous by the film ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’.

The honor of cutting the Caring Homes 30th birthday cake was given to resident Celia who has been a member of the Horsell family for 4 very happy years. Celia commented, “I cannot thank the staff enough here at Horsell Lodge. This is my home, I feel I have 100 friends, not just people who look after me. Julie and her team are amazing to us all”.

It was the perfect way to mark a very special day.
