The Orchard Care Home Jubilee Celebrations

24th June 2022

Residents, families and friends at The Orchard Care Home celebrated the Platinum Jubilee with a BBQ and party for all to enjoy, as well as planting a tree for the jubilee in the gardens and taking the opportunity to get involved in the Caring Homes Treasured Memories campaign.

The jubilee celebrations was a chance to get everyone together in the gardens at the home to enjoy the wonderful weather and mark such a special occasion. The hospitality team put on a fantastic BBQ and due to the royal occasion made traditional scones and victoria sponge cake for dessert, with a range of refreshments as well.

There was a raffle and teddy tombola stand so that people could have some fun and buy tickets, plus traditional English music playing all afternoon.

Earlier this year Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. This marked her 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events have been taking place across the country and everyone thoroughly enjoyed being part of those celebrations at The Orchard.

Take a look below at the tree we planted for the jubilee and how everyone got involved with our time capsule...

Trees are being planted across the UK to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and at The Orchard Nursing Home we have got involved and are proud to be supporting the Queen's Green Canopy Project. This is a unique tree planting initiative and as we had everyone together to celebrate this special occasion we took the opportunity to plant our Prunus tree in the home's grounds, which was marked with an official royal commemorative plaque.

Home Manager Sam Koroma said, “Everyone at the home enjoyed the opportunity to mark such a wonderful occasion and get involved in the initiative. Inviting friends and relatives in to celebrate with us made the day that bit more special.”

Treasured Memories at The Orchard

Since the beginning of the year the residents, their relatives, friends and the local community have been collecting items to put into a time capsule at the home as part of the Caring Homes Treasured Memories campaign, where our homes have been placing time capsules within their grounds. It was a chance for everyone to put something in for future generations to find, the items included stories, pen pal letters from the local primary school as well as a face mask.

Once everything was put in the capsule it was then secured to the wall of the home with a plaque to mark the occasion for it to be opened and the memories to be seen by future residents and staff at the home.

The Orchard Care Home provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care on a permanent and short stay basis.
