The Orchard Invites Local Community To Join Understanding Dementia Workshop
The Orchard Nursing Home in St Albans recently hosted an Understanding Dementia Workshop for relatives and friends which was also open to anyone from the local community interested in learning more about dementia.
Community Groups Invited to Participate
The workshop was led by Caring Homes’ expert dementia trainer Chris Elsley. Caring Homes is a leading provider of dementia care and the continued training and education of its teams is hugely important – as is sharing their expertise with the wider community. As Chris visits a care home to deliver staff training, she also commits to hosting an evening workshop for caregivers, family members, stakeholders and neighbours of the care home who would benefit from a greater understanding of dementia.
The Orchard was delighted to welcome 26 participants from groups including the St Albans Good Neighbour Scheme and local solicitors, Debenhams Ottaway. Chris’s workshop is designed to provide valuable insight into dementia and also to offer practical advice. The attendees were guided through key topics, including the different types of dementia, early signs and symptoms, effective communication strategies, and the importance of creating a supportive environment.

The feedback was extremely positive. Many attendees shared how interesting and engaging they found the session and expressed admiration for Chris’s wealth of knowledge and deep understanding of dementia, as well as praising her compassionate approach.
