The Orchard Nursing Home wins innovative technology equipment
The residents and team at The Orchard Nursing Home are celebrating recently after winning a Mobii interactive sensory activity board.
In celebration of 40 years of service to the care sector, Towergate Insurance, a provider of specialist insurance, ran a nationwide competition called #CaringTogether, which was designed to give back to care homes by gifting an OM Interactive sensory board worth over £9,000.
As a part of care homes' entry to the competition, entries had to share their favourite memories of the care sector and Caring Homes’ The Orchard Nursing Home, a residential, nursing and dementia care home, were picked as the lucky winners for their funny, heart-warming and inspirational care stories which shone a light on how both residents and staff are helping each other.
Designed to create dynamic images on a board to improve, health, well-being and entertainment, the easy-to-use adjustable board is suitable for people of all physical and cognitive abilities. With around 150 activities and more than 300 activities in the additional adult-sensory suite, residents have an endless supply of stimulating entertainment at their fingertips.
As a part of the prize package, The Orchard’s staff will now work with OM Interactive to personalise the board, allowing residents to upload their own images and memories.
Speaking on the competition win, home manager, Narcis Militaru, said: “We are overjoyed with winning the #CaringTogether competition as this is another way which enables us to support people to live well with dementia.”
Providing extensive benefits to elderly residents, the Mobii interactive board has already shown to increase residents' willingness to communicate, improve socialisation, provide greater opportunities to share personal stories, improve relationships with staff and peers, and allow families to enjoy joint activities with loved ones without the pressure of finding words.
Narcis continued: “Not only does the interactive board provide a wide range of activities and games for residents to enjoy, but it also makes for the perfect intergenerational activity for when we have visitors come to visit the home. There is truly something for everyone.”
