There was lots to celebrate in June at Mellish House

7th July 2022

Of course, like most, Mellish House staff and residents kick started the month with some very busy and wonderful Jubilee celebrations. Our celebrations spread over two days starting on Thursday where we took 10 residents (in two groups) down to our local meadows where the town was holding a Jubilee fete. They had shows such as dog training, birds of prey and sheep herding which the resident's thought were fantastic to watch. We walked around the rest of the Fete where some residents had a go on some of the game stalls and some won a prize. We bought some yummy treats on the way round like ice creams, doughnuts and even a beer for a couple of residents. The residents thoroughly enjoyed being out and seeing all the businesses, watching the dogs walking around and children playing. The second day we held our very own Mellish BBQ in the garden which was decorated with lots of fun props for the afternoon, such as royal masks for a laugh, word searches, colouring and interesting facts about the queen. And of course music for dancing.

Residents enjoyed a wonderful Church service this month again with our reverend Jenny. The service had the theme of rainbows and kindness with the story of Noah's ark and the flood washing away all the evil. Residents enjoyed waving their rainbows around with Jenny, remembering this familiar story and singing lots of happy upbeat Hymns and songs all about colours and beauty. Then ended the service by all accepting Holy Communion.

We celebrated all our wonderful Father's here at Mellish by treating them all to fish and chips from a local fish and chip shop and a beer if they fancied, for Father’s Day they all sat together for a mini dinner party enjoying their meal.

June was also national endangered species awareness month. We held a successful cake stall where some of the residents joined us helping to chat to public asking if they'd like to buy a cake. We had endangered animal colouring, music on, wordsearches, books and fact sheets about all the animals we need to save. Residents were so pleased to find out they'd raised enough to be able to adopt an animal from WWF. After looking at those that are most endangered and least popular to be adopted there was an unanimous vote to adopt the Amur Leopard.

Residents enjoyed national fudge day this month which has since been a request for a regular food treat as so many told us it was their favourite and there was definitely none left over. Soaking up as much sun as possible we enjoyed nature walks across the meadows spotting as much beautiful summer nature as possible.
