Welcome To The Haunted House – It’s Halloween At The Orchard!
Each October the team at The Orchard Nursing Home in St Albans start planning for their annual transformation into a must-visit pit stop for local trick-or-treaters.
‘Fright Night’ starts with Spooky Decorations and Scary Costumes
Residents at The Orchard celebrate Halloween with themed games and fun all week long, but the home also provides the local community with a spooky setting for October 31st when it takes centre stage as The Haunted House.
The Orchard Team brought all its crafting flair to the party, creating terrifying decorations to bring the spirit of Halloween to life at the front door. Residents took a keen interest in what was being made and where things should hang for maximum ‘fright’ effect! Sinister black curtains provided a backdrop for grinning skulls, giant spiders, ghostly faces and wicked black cats. Goody bags were compiled and as daylight dimmed and the clock struck 4, the Wellbeing team, dressed as spooky pumpkins, took up their positions to greet anyone fearless enough to call by.
A Family Affair and An Appearance from Canine Superstar, Daisy
There were many visitors who embraced the theme of Halloween by wearing fancy dress and braved the scary pumpkins to collect their ‘treats’. Residents popped out to see the action and admired the costumes worn by local children and families who look forward to visiting the Haunted House every year. Resident Zena, smartly dressed in a white jacket said, “I had a lot of fun, and it was lovely to see the children enjoying themselves”.
The Haunted House is a real family affair, with Wellbeing Lead, Gami’s son Evan helping to hand out candy, and The Orchard’s canine superstar Daisy, joining the fun, wearing her own little pumpkin outfit. Local families love to visit the Haunted House on their yearly ‘trick or treat’ adventure and one parent told the team they thought it was wonderful, and that they appreciated everyone’s hard work.
At 6pm, with the ‘treat’ baskets empty and Halloween revellers long gone, the ghostly pumpkins disappeared inside and as darkness began to fall, the doors to the Haunted House closed - until next year.
