Whittington House’s Animal Adoption Day Proves Popular with Residents
The team at Whittington House Care Home in Cheltenham organised an Animal Adoption Day event at the home last month. The event was organised with their local animal shelter, who brought a few of their ‘furry friends’ into the home to visit with the residents.
The local community were invited to book an appointment to come into Whittington House, to speak to the animal shelter and sign up to adopt an animal that desperately needed a home. They also had the opportunity to interact with some of the eclectic mix of animals that the shelter had brought in – including small ones like rabbits and reptiles.
Not only was this a great event to engage the local community and help the local animal shelter find more people to adopt the animals, but also great for our residents. Animal-assisted therapy is a growing area that uses animals to help people recover or cope better with health problems. It has proven that interaction with animals can help lower blood pressure, releases endorphins that have a calming effect and even diminishes overall physical pain.
A very enjoyable day and a big thank you to everyone for doing something so positive and uplifting and hope you enjoy your new member of the family!
